God supports gender equality?

Is this verse the word of God or the word of a man?
1 Corinthians 14:34-35
34women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.
35If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
Jesus did not break the laws, He tore away the garbage that the pharisees tacked onto the law. You have to understand the church of that time in order to understand what what being said here.
LOL...more bible idiocy.

Sexist book.

In ancient Corinth, women were not taught in schools or used to worship attendance, so they didn't know how to act in church. They might ask their husbands to explain something that they didn't understand while the service was going on, thus disrupting the service. This is why Paul said the women 'should ask their husbands at home'.

Women and men are equal in worth. Although they have different traits and sometimes different roles, the differences have been way exaggerated throughout history by sexist men who wanted to keep power over women. Yet as women get more education and opportunity, they prove themselves competent, even excellent, in fields once reserved for only men.

Jesus met a Samaritan woman alone in public at a time when no self-respecting Jewish preacher would speak to ANY woman in public, let alone a non-Jew. Jesus had female followers who traveled with him, including Mary Magdelene, Susanna, and Joanna. (And no, the Bible never says Mary was a prostitute!) Only women anointed Jesus in the Bible! Mary Magdalene and other women where the first witnesses to the resurrected Jesus. Jesus later rebuked his male disciples for not believing what Mary and the women told them. This was back at a time when women were not allowed to testify in court.

Priscilla helped her husband Aquilla teach Apollos.

Lydia was apparently a leader in the church, as was Phoebe.

When Martha tried to make Jesus make her sister Mary do the housework with her, Jesus said, 'Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken away from her.'

Jesus used a woman as a God-figure in the Parable of the Lost Coin.

Even in the Old Testament, Deborah was a judge; a female civilian killed a male warrior with a millstone; the woman Jael killed the general Sisera; the innkeeper/prostitute Rahab hid the Hebrew spies in Jericho. When Judah tried to have his daughter-in-law Tamar killed for adultery, Tamar proved that Judah was the guilty one, and he admitted, 'She is more in the right than I.'

Even in the Garden of Eden, God said he'd put enmity between the serpent and HER (Eve's) seed.

I think I've made my point.
it is the word of God meant to be interpreted in light of the social context, as well as the rest of scripture.
Consider the times; women were seen as slightly higher than the animals.

In greater terms, there is no gender...just one beloved 'Son' of God, expressing as a multitude.

'Woman' is the intuitive aspect of that Beloved: us.
sounds good to me,, LOL dont read the bible
Oh, my. One of these posts said that God favors men over women?!? I've been struggling with the whole faith thing for a while, now, but this has really hit me. That was written by MAN, not God.
god suports men more than woman
eve was the 1 who ate the fruit and talked adam into eating it also
so now all woman suffer because of eve
wow. You're really treading in some ... shall we say... testy water. First things first. 1 Corinthians is written by Paul from Ephesus after hearing news that the people of Corinth weren't proper Christians and were arguing etc. So I assume that 1 Corinthians is what Paul envisions as the proper lifestyle of a Christian. While this is not exactly God's Own Word, it wouldn't be in the Bible if it wasn't under God's consent.

I would say that it's the word of a man (Paul), but technically, since it's the Bible, it's also the Word of God.
Sorry to get off topic, but I want to address slipknot:

It's not through Eve but rather through Adam that humanity is sinful. In fact, it's exactly for this reason that Jesus was born through immaculate conception; no human man could father Jesus, but a human woman was acceptable. It was because Adam knew the 'rule' and Eve did not that Adam is actually considered more culpable and thus, the fall of Humanity is through Adam.

The belief that Eve is at fault is the result of a centuries of propaganda from patriarchal societies...

Answers:
i think that it was written in times where women did not have any rights and in a societal setting that did not value a woman's opinion. St. Paul was notorious for his views on women, which in many respects, seem to contradict how Jesus regarded women...Jesus elevated women...in one respect, Jesus was the greatest feminist ever...so, to answer your question, it was written by a man, but the central message was inspired by the Holy Spirit...
This is the word of God (2 Timothy 3:16,17).
Does it mean that God wishes women not to speak at all? No. We know that can't be true because women as well as men received the gifts of the spirit. They were blessed with being able to speak in tongues (different languages) and prophesy.
What is meant here is that it was not appropriate for women to teach in a public sense or exercise authority over a man (1 Timothy 2:11-12). This goes in line with the headship priciple at 1 Corinthians 11:3-6.
If a women had a question, she would raise it in the privacy of her home. Any capable husband could be able to answer the question or address the matter to the wife's satisfaction.
Women, as I said before, took part in preaching (Acts 18:26), as well as privately teaching others (usually younger women) in the congregation (Titus 2:3-5). Women were also involved greatly in teaching in the home, training their children, as we see with the example of Timothy (2 Tim. 1:5; 2 Tim. 3:15).

The guidance we find in the Bible by priciples and the examples in Jesus and God and many others show us that women should never be mistreated, and shown proper honor and dignity. At the same time, women, as well as all other servants of God, were expected to respect the arrangement set up by God.
Men and women are not equel but they are complimentory to each other. God made them different for a reason. Ask and woman if she thinks a man could go through labor? Or a woman to fight like a man. It is a fact that there are strong women but men as a whole are much stronger. Men should love their wives like Jesus loved his church. Men should respect protect and love their wives. Men should listen to the word of God and look at the kind example of Jesus when he saved the mary magdalen the hooker from getting killed by stoning.
Jesus showed compassion and justice when he saved her from the evil hypocrits that wanted to stone her to death.
