Do you think that the US goverment looking at your search results is legal? Or is this a invasion of privacy?

I think that the goverment is wrong to look at your searches without telling you first. What do you think?
anything in the public sector is public. However, can they use that as probable cause is another question.

if you were a student doing research on child porn and entered that into a search engine, can the gov't seize your computer and start an investigation?

I think not.
I definatley think it should not be allowed, that is our privacy, they can keep there noses in there own business... What if we want to look up terrorism strikes, they are going to assume we are a terrorist trying to cause trouble, no that is wrong!!

As harmless as it may seem, & they always claim good intent. It is WRONG. It is wrong because it is just one more way for them to get their foot in the door to our freedoms & right to privacy. As the years pass... It has become obvious that slowly but surely they take a little more & more, claiming good intentions. Won't be long when we will not be able to go out after 10pm, because someone will claim that 90% of all crime takes place after a designated time. Or maybe we should all wear helmits in our cars, because it saves lives. They say it is the interests of public safety, then they make us wear seat-belts which is not public safety, but personal safety. If they keep it up, we will loose all rights to choose anything, because it is ALL bad, & they are always right. Wish they could look at themselves in the mirror to make improvements, opposed to always pointing their finger at the public at large.
I'm one of those people who really hate when others try to stick their fingers in my personal stuff and i value intimacy. However, in these kind of cases i have different opinion. As for me, if the goverment looks at my search results, my emails or anything else, it is ILEGAL if they don't have my permission to do it.
However, if it's a matter of NATIONAL SECURITY, i really wouldn't blame them for anything, i mean, i wouldn't have anything against no matter what they do, cause after all, it would a matter of NATIONAL SECURITY, but this is then and only then, only in those type of cases, no other.
The fedearl government will look at your bank account willout you known it, guss what?!
guess what... I dont give a **** if they look at my search results, as a resident of the UK I'm a free citizen anyways but if my government was looking at my usage i wouldnt care aslong as there not spamming me or restricting access.
