Is it time to replace our political system with something that actually works?

I think i've cracked it.

The problem is that all politicians are self serving, incompetent, corrupt and only in it for what they can scam for themselves. That means that no matter how badly they deliver, they don't have to really worry about losing their jobs or looking bad, because the last bloke and the next bloke are of the same calibre - and there's no real comeback for screwing up on a monumental scale.

Now, if expressing any wish or desire to be a politician precluded you from being one, we could introduce a system whereby holding a cabinet position was like being held to ransom.

Efficient, successful, sensible people could be press ganged into, for example, sorting out the NHS. Their reward would be not having to do that job any more, once it was completed - and going back to their normal life. Punishment for failure would be imprisonment until your replacement managed to tackle the problem successfully.

It's a motivation thing... and fat cats need not apply!
Do you not find it curious that most MP'S were lawyers.
This is every conservatives' nightmare: The people ruling the country, not a fascist dictator that used $$, fear and propaganda
i thought of a way, every month they open the polling stations, and have say 10 questions example -

should we build more nuclear power stations ?

1 - yes
2 - no

we could have 10 questions like this every month and the majority wins, total democracy for the people
Compulsory, like jury duty, or conscription?

I like it! ;)
Interesting theory.
IF only...
Seems like politicians are the same sorry lot everywhere.
Term limits is the only answer.
I think 'crack'ed is the operative word (You cracked it alright!)
Sort of a selective draft. Not too bad.
I do believe that there are a lot of intelligent people in the US that would be willing to work for the government for 2, 4, or 6 years but it is almost impossible to get elected. You have to build a career in politics. Get elected at the local or state level and build up your reputation and money resources. Then maybe you can go to state. Eliminate that. Government pays for the elections. You get a set amount and a certain amount of TV spots, election debates, and a sheet sent to every voter with your qualifications and views on certain issues. One term. Pick your spot. Money for the election comes from the savings on benefits and pensions that don't have to be paid. All companies would be required to release their employees for the term length - just like the military.

hmm OK you have a point, so long as these people work for the best company in the country. You know what I'm going to say dont you? yes the COOP worker! Then you can guarantee the houses of Parliament will be under staffed and under payed for all eternity!
You can't blame the politicians. WE KEEP VOTING THEM BACK IN AGAIN!!
Could you agree to disagree?

It's way overdue. I believe that USA is currently a government OF the RICH, For the RICH and BY the RICH.

Get a businessman in to have the country turning a profit.

i believe that its only the 'real people' (eg those working for the NHS) who recognise the faults and limitations in the system, they would be much better at doing the job of a minister who has never worked there and has no real knowledge of the practicalities and realities of the system.
I would do it myself!
i think its great but how would we get the politicians to go away plus who would we blame when everything turns to ****?
I like it!
how about a new neo-Nazism without the anti semitism.
who decides whats 1st? not you..
