What is the process and how long it takes if you report an attorney to America bar association?

I want to report my attorney to the bar association for disservice and not doing his job. Please help with the question? thanks.
I complained to the bar association to no avail, I had to write a letter explaining my problem with my ex-attorney, then all they did was send them a letter stating that they were in error by not returning my file/evidence to me, it did absolutely no good whatsoever, I still do not have my file 10 years later!
The American Bar Assoc. has no disciplinary power over attorneys. You must complain to your state bar association.

MLaw is right... the ABA, although it releases advisory ethics opinions, has no oversight over lawyer discipline. In some states, your state bar association might deal with that. In many other states, it's a lawyers' disciplinary board that is overseen by the state Supreme Court.
I would start with your state Supreme Court webpage -- usually there's a link to 'attorney registration and discipline' or something like that. That's how you can file a complaint.
(But have you tried working it out with your attorney first?)
