How does a court in Michigan enforce penalties against my California drivers license?
I'm going to court for a traffic offense in Michigan where I will undoubtedly be sentenced to a license suspension, fines and Secretary of State fees. I am licensed in California. How can the Michigan court and Secretary of State enforce these penalties when they have no jurisdiction in California?
I realize that California will probably 'punish' me based on the Michigan court's sentence with a suspension, fines, fees, etc, of their own. But, what is my obligation to the State of Michigan?
Your obligation will be any fines and court costs assessed by the court. The Michigan Department of Motor Vehicles will send notice by computer to California where if you are suspended in Michigan it will apply in all other states as well. If a sentence of incarceration is imposed you will also serve that too...in Michigan.
Duh. Maybe because you got a ticket in Michigan.

It means you can't drive in Michigan with your California license or any other license. Depending on your State and other States, you may still be able to drive in them.
I think it's called a reciprocity agreement so that you can't (or anyone else ) run from state to state to get out of paying a fine etc. particularly with the truckers, that's why they came up with the CDL license for them.
