ok i just found out someone used my name and id for criminal charges..i just found out i have a warrant for my arrest for something i didnt do!! this is BS! how can this be...they told me to go to the police station and get finger printed but iam thinking they trying trick me into turning myself in for something i didnt do...i dont even drive or have a drivers license.i havent even been in miami since 3-18-07..this citation was given out on 4-24-07...im mad what should i do..?
There are several steps you should take BEFORE you talk with the police. Do not turn yourself in! Sometimes, when someone claims ID theft, they don't always use common sense.
-Gather any and all documentation to prove your whereabouts on the date the citation was issued.
-Provide any and all documentation that demonstrates you maintain residence outside of Miami.
-Get signed and notarized statements from anyone who can attest to your whereabouts on the date the citation was issued.
-If the warrant is for a moving violation, prove that you don't have a driver's license.
-Get a copy of your credit report as it may prove that someone has hijacked your identity.
Contact the jurisdiction that issued the warrant and get the details. Then, spend an hour with a defense attorney to find out if there is anything he/she may recommend.
Believe me, you do not want to spend who knows how long in jail waiting for this issue to be straightened out.
Good luck.
go to the police station and sit down and explain it to them.if they come after you they will find you and it will be worse. i would suggest getting an attorney before you go.
Answer:
Get your stuff in the bag. Get proof of your whereabouts and absolutely get an attorney. Do not go to the police station without an attorney. Get an attorney and have the attorney get a copy of the warrant and all the information about the charges. Then discuss the information with him. Don't let anyone tell you that having an attorney is like an admission that you've done something wrong. That's bs. Today, anyone who even remotely talks to the police should have an attorney present. There are crooked cops, too. That's why we have laws -- to protect the innocent. So you should protect yourself first., Remember, you can't prove a negative. That's why identity theft is such a great crime. Lots of people have had their identities stolen and then had crimes committed in their names. Some are even in prison for crimes they didn't commit. Others have had everything they owned taken by the IRS for tax evasion. It takes years to undo identity theft and with the proliferation of computers and the ability to get very personal information, it is becoming increasingly harder to prove you are who you say you are. Add to that the fact that the U.S. Government is not prosecuting illegal immigrants and the fraud they commit via use of false identities so the Government is a huge contributor. Additionally the corporations who hire, harbor and help these illegal immigrants are actually contributing to identity theft because they are aiding and abetting illegals and fraudulent acts.
People need to wise up. Don't give out personal information to anyone. Don't put your face on the computer and don't put any personal information on the computer. If you do, you're making it easy for identity thieves and criminals. Banks don't help. When banks send your personal information off-shore, there is no way your privacy can be guaranteed. Nor can the proper use of your information be guaranteed. Start now by not giving out any information whatsoever. Question the need for information when anyone asks for it and simply start paying cash for everything. That's the best way to keep your identity safe -- don't use credit. Don't pay by check. Just drive off the information highway.
Miami seems to be the biggest harbor for identity thieves and the banks are helping them. The banks contract with employees in other countries who have your name, address, mother's maiden name, social security number, and all the other personal information they shouldn't have. What's worse is some of these countries are on terrorist watch lists -- like the Phillippines. That kind of points to the idea that maybe the banks are promoting terrorism by contracting with foreign nationals and giving them access to private and sensitive information. Think about what these foreign nationals can do with information. They could gain access to airports, government, nuclear power plants, banks, etc. because they have all the information -- including passwords. The Congress is doing nothing to promote our safety and security so it's up to each individual to keep their information safe and secure.
Check out how many government computers have been stolen and data has been stolen. Even our military information has been compromised. Think about how much data has been stolen and hacked from computers and then think about who needs it. Get your situation resolved and then take action against the identity thieves. If we don't do something soon, none of us will be safe.
Calm down, first of all.
There are ways to figure out what's really going on.
It sounds like somebody got a traffic ticket in Miami, and had a fake driver's license with your name and address on it? If you really weren't in Miami and really don't drive, it sounds like you have nothing to worry about.
I'd go down to the police station, but with more of a 'We have to figure out what's going on here, because this doesn't make any sense' attitude, rather than a 'This is BS and I'm mad' attitude.
Cops don't like being handed fake ID's. It'll be okay.
No, go to the station. When they take your prints they can elliminate them against the persons real prints who gave your details. If he is arrested again and gives your details they'll know as they will have both sets of prints. Just be sure you didn't leave prints at any crime scene before you go in!! lol
