Back a few years ago, I had some checks to bounce. I paid off 2 of them, and a few more of them that I wrote, the companies are no longer in business. I am not a criminal, but I had small kids, and a crappy paying job, sorry man, and out of desperation I wrote maybe $150 worth of bad checks. All were spent on food and diapers. I recieved a couple letters from some of the store, but afterward, I never heard from any of the other ones. Now that I am working a more stable job, I want to know what can I do about this and to ease my conscious about the checks. I know my name is in what they call a S.C.A.N system and stores still won't take personal checks from me, but they will do debit. I am assuming I don't have any warrants out, ( the new job I got did an extensive background check, and I'm assuming a warrant would have shown up) but at the same time, it has been a long time and I never paid the checks off? What would you do?
Give the money to a good charity.
Contact all the credit bureaus and find out who is holding a lien on these checks so you can clear them up.
First thing you need to do is get a copy of your credit report. Most likely these checks are on there. If they are write a letter to one of the major three credit companies (equifax...) and dispute the charge. They have 30 days to justify it and they do this by contact the company. If the company does not respond or is out of business they must remove this from your record.
Also, the stores that do exist have a right to not allow you to use checks in there stores. Sorry. However, if they are allowing you to use a debit card then that should solve your problem. Because one particular store does not accept checks from you doesnt mean that all stores won't accept checks and even credit checks won't bring this up if its not on your credit report. So dont worry about this information spreading.
Sound like you did the right thing to correct a problem that was impossible to avoid.
Good Luck!
dispute the system! if that don't work. pay what you can even if its a dollar a mounth, another thing is a hard ship for the children, they need mild diapers,so on, if you don't feed the child then the goverment will..
dispute the systems that are reporting the bad checks about you.

If they were small companies then, they probably lost all their accounting records already. I figure if they were big corporate companies then they probably transferred all your account details to the company that bought them out. Now usually your bounced checks would not get you in that much trouble. I think you are getting it confused with fraud.
When you bounced your check, it has to do with your bank. If you didn't have money in your account, then it bounced and a 'insufficient funds' fee was applied to your account. Which would've been 15 to 35 dollars. Those fees were then charged and if you didn't pay, then they would automatically be deducted from your account once you made a deposit.
I am sure you should have pending bills and balances but my best advise to you would be to check your credit. Everything or Everybody you owe will show up there. Pay them off to clear your credit and your conscious
