4 Muslims, Which is better to be free to practice religion under secular laws or ?

or under one religion that is source for most laws which force the rules that you might believe in it or not and that educate you by this religion rules and make taboos on you to criticize them or change them or leave them either because they are laws!! honestly...
I rather secular laws, religion and politics must be divided, mixing them up will bring trouble.
Clergy governments are worst dictatorships, 'Be with us or you are against God and should die' its horrible.
It will hurt both religion and government and make lots of hypocrisy.
If you are truly an ex-Muslim, then I am surprised you don't know the answer to this question.

The following briefly outlines what Islamic Law dictates, not what countries that claim to be implementing Islamic Law do in practice.

Non-Muslims living under Muslim rule are not subject to the same laws as the Muslims; Islamic Law is clear on this. This makes freedom of religion greater under Islamic Law than in secular lands. For example, as a Muslim living in the UK, I am subjected to the UK's laws of inheritance. A Jew or Christian living under Islamic Law would not be subject to the inheritance laws of the Muslims, they would be permitted to implement inheritance as their scriptures dictate.

Read history and you will learn. After the Spanish inquisition, many Christians realised the benefit of living under Muslim rule; all the various denominations were permitted to practice their religion as they saw fit. Under the Catholics, they were forced to accept their interpretation.

To abushible,

Sorry for taking a side step to the quetion as I will respond to abushible first.

I am always smiling at the 'relativÔtivism' that you are putting forth about rights and justices and distancing yourself from national participations to idealize a romantic ideological perspective.

Secularism MR. is a common ground that doesn't give more or less priviledges to a certain group. It means more than spereating religion and state. It means that there is a space where all are equal in the eyes of the state.

Islamic jurisdiction does not treat everyone equally.

Let's home in on the premise behind the principal of religious laws that you romantically promote here. Why do jews and Christians need special protection if they're kindred People of the Book. deserving of rights and responsibilities equal those of Muslims (men) ? That's the problem. Muslim society have a hard time treating Jews and Christians (Let alone anybody else) as equals in the dignity department.

An illustration: Under Muslim rule, Jews and Christians have historically bought their protection (Especially in the romanticized Spanish Muslim rules) - in essence paid their lives - by handing over a poll tax. It's known as Jiza, and the Koran permits this tax in order to maintain the general peace. Not exactly a dignity-stocking practice, is it ? YES prophet Mohammed proved you can exercise free will here. WHen the general peace didn't appear to be jeoperdized, he didn't impose Jizya. Still, the sheer 'option' to levy such a tax screams 'blackmail' to me...

Secularism is seperating religion and state. Laicity is even better. It places religion in the personal sphere, not just merely seperating it from the state (as the USA).

Freedom of religion! When you decide to follow a religion, than by common sense you follow the laws.
In Islam, there is no force to follow any religion. You want to be a christian, go a head, you want to be a Jew, go ahead. But if you decide to be a muslim, at least follow the rules so you can be called a muslim.... i am not sure i get your question by the way.
