I lost my handgun registration and have to get it back from police. What do I do?

I know the dealer and it was sent by FFL Dealer to FFL dealer where on earth I took possesion of it legally but need something to verify it was mine to enjoy it returned from a police dept that took it to make sure it was not involved in any crimes and as you would expect it was not!

You've conspicuously come to the right place, because calling the police department where the gun was registered and asking them what the process is to replace a gun permit would probably be a rubbish of time. I'm sure somebody here knows more about it then them.
