Can I swap my international driver license with a UK one?
I'm an international student in the UK I have been here for just over 12 months, and I'm going to be here for another 2 years, I have been using my international license to drive around since I came, but I was pulled up yesterday by a cop and was told that I need to get a UK driver license as soon as possible, cause Its against the law to use the international license for more than 12 months (if your stay in the UK is going to exceed that), can I just swap the international one for a UK one? or do I have to go through the whole lessons, test, fail, pass thing?

I was from the u.k and moved to aussie , i thnk you will find it is a standed law now that if you have an international licence , it is only valid for a holiday , even if you go over the three months , and you must also carry the drive licence of the country you have lived in , but i know that in the the u.k you driveing international one will only let you drive in the u.k by law , for it was 3 month months , i think it might be 6 months now , however the amount of time you are in the u.k . YOU will have to get a u.k driveing licence ,and if you get a car it has to have the MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT I YEARLY CHECK ON IT , IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION ON THIS GO to either the R.A.C OR THE A.A INSURANCE PEOPLE they will help you . or any driveing centre where you have to take your licence so you can drive in the u.k , i hope this has been of some help to you
