if a man is found innocent of sexual charges against a minor how can she then claim damages

Because civil and criminal are two different things, and innocent of criminal charges means a reasonable doubt standard, while the civil claim for damages will be a preponderance of the evidence standard.
Same point happened with O.J., he won the criminal trial but lost the civil trial, different burden of proof.
