Why is prostitution illegal in most countries?


I know to most women it is against their principles, but it's not really harming anyone, and isn't it people's right to do what they want with their bodies? You guys who say it transmits STIs, don't some ppl who own lots of unprotected sex with different ppl also do this?

Prostitution is unconstitutional because it undermines certain cultural values. Men an women are different in vocabulary of sex drive, and the vast majority of prostitutes are women. Ultimately, if prostitution is legal, a price is put on a woman's sexuality. This is degrading for women in common. Having said all of that, many countries, (and at least one state surrounded by this country) allow prostitution. Societies pick their own values...

Logically, prostitution should be legalized. The government can tax it, so that they own more money to squander on the special interests and cronies---which has become standard operating procedure in local, state and especially federal government. The professional ladies can be checked regularlly for diseases, and even return with Social Security. Prostitution will always be around, there's no question about it. But the politicians won't knob this issue, as they're afraid they won't get reelected, and will not be on the gravy train for themselves and their cronies. In Nevada, prostitution is legal, and there doesn't seem to be to be any problem with it there. The ladies of the evening could have safer, cleaner working conditions, and not be trolling the streets for their clients. In the Netherlands, it's officially recognized, and they even have a red light district in Amsterdam especially for the sex workers. But I guess that too copious Americans are too prudish and judgmental and think that legalizing it would be condoning it. Oh, and the number of rapes would also decrease, if professional ladies be readily available to take care of the requests of those individuals who are so inclined.
Aside from diseases it tend to create an undesirable, sub population- but then breeding in general can sometimes be said to produce this.
Some would say it is indeed harmful to the nonspecific well-being of the population, mainly in regards to sexually-transmitted diseases.
