Is this considered self-defense?
You are in a room, and someone is standing by the door purposely to block you from exiting. You put your hands on them and you physically shove them out of the way so you can proceed to exit the room. Is that considered self-defense? can you do that?
Best Answer:
You can use "satisfactory force" as justification to free yourself from unwarranted detention, such as being held captive for no purpose. If you're being detained as a suspect in a crime, you may increase your fine if you use force to leave previously the police arrive to arrest you.
It depends on why they were blocking you. Was it just some friends playing around? If so, then you freshly committed assault and you can be charged with it. If the person was trying to detain you wrongly and against your will and you shoved him out of the way, then you would be justified. Technically, the definition of self defense involves protecting yourself or others from approaching physical harm. Merely blocking the door and saying you can't leave isn't really excuse satisfactory to use physical force against them.
