What does the No Child Left Behind Act do?

its suppose to help kids keep up in school, idk how exactly though
keep kids in school and abet them graduate having the knowledge of education. But its a crock. masses kids who do graduate sometime graduate not learning how to read or even understanding speaking the english language.
Nothing useful. It encourages school to teach to tests, it encourages districts and states to lower their standards to create false improvements, it take time away from more productive teaching practices. A few years ago in my city one of the most outstanding schools be actually threatened with a cut in funding because their students weren't "improving". Really? They be already performing at the EXCELLENT level... how much are you likely to improve on that? Ridiculous.
NCLB is the latest federal legislation (another was Goals 2000) which enact the theories of standards-based education reform, formerly known as outcome-based rearing, which is based on the belief that setting high standards and establishing measurable goals can rearrange individual outcomes in education. The Act requires states to develop assessments in serious skills to be given to all students in certain grades, if those states are to receive federal funding for school. NCLB does not assert a national achievement standard; standards are set by each individual state, in smudge with the principle of local control of schools. The Act also requires that the schools distribute the autograph, home phone number and address of every student enrolled to military recruiters and institutions of higher education, unless the student (or the student's parent) specifically opt out.[6] Simply it requires standardized testing, and any school that wishes to receive grant dollars (federal funding) to get together a minimum level set by each individual state. It pushes dumb kids through school even if they didn't pass anything. Its the worst idea ever put into play.
NCLB is an attempt to verbs the education system. Republicans and conservatives hate anything that is nationalized. They try to incriminate anything that is state run of being sloppy, inefficient, corrupt, etc. This is because they would rather their rich cousins take richer my privatizing these nationalized institutions. So they do stuff like intentionally destroy and corrupt the institutions they would like to privatize. They own been attempting this strategy with social security, state colleges, robustness care, and now they have put surrounded by place the means to destroy public education. NCLB works close to this: Funding is taken from schools which are under performing per state standards testing. Since poor students usually enjoy a single parent at home who is most likely working 2 jobs to make ends get together (because of Reaganomics but thats a different story) they have less support and discipline for schoolwork, homework, attendance, behavior, etc. This insures that only the poor school lose funding. Sounds counter productive, doesn't it? Take money away from the schools who need the most help. I'm sure subsequent time the house and senate are in a right-wing majority situation we'll see a proposition to privatize the public school system because it isn''t working anymore. When that happens, newly remember who broke it.
First of all, it allowed military recruiters onto giant school campuses in greater level. That's a little side note for you. It requires public schools to submit students to standardized conducting tests. If it is unable to meet the requirements of a successful school, parents can opt to distribute their children to a different district. It's actually an ok law... but it places federal regulation on education minus providing funds to meet those regulations.

No Child Left Behind requires all public school to administer a state-wide standardized test annually to all students. Schools which receive Title I funding must make Adequate Yearly Progress contained by test scores (e.g. each year, its fifth graders must do better on standardized test than the previous years). If a Title I school fails to make Adequate Yearly Progress, afterwards it is put on a list of "failing schools" published in the local paper and parents are given the likelihood to transfer to another school. If it does not meet AYP for a second year, next it must provide special tutoring for its economically disadvantaged students.

The administration makes schools test their students beside standardized tests. Each year the overall schools scores are required to reorganize. If they do not improve they are deemed a "failing school" Schools don't want to be called "failing" so the manufacture the ciriculum easier to inflate scores, leaving the poor kiddies with a smaller quantity rigorous education.
It was supposed to give parents more flexibility surrounded by choosing what school their child attends, also it was to increase accountability of the schools and states on the standards. I other laughed at the name of it though when Bush signed that bill. First it was "Head Start" programs, immediately it's "No Child Left Behind". What happened in this country?
