Can my husbands ex wife see my tax return to try and get more money?
She has been divorced from him for 9 years but now is asking to see his tax returns (via her lawyer' letter) we file joint returns so my information is on it too, can I deny her from seeing it? She is looking to get more money from my husband
NO SHE HAS NO WRITE TO YOURE TAX RETURN IT IS PRIVATE INFO
If she's looking for more money for child support, then yup. She has every right in that sense.
you can deny her access since right now all you have is a lawyer requesting it (unless there divorce agreement said something about financial disclosure) however she can tell a judge that she wants to see it and they can order it, however if that were the case i would explain the situation (you dont want her to have access to YOUR information) and in most cases the court will have you bring the tax papers to them and they will look at your husbands info only and transcribe that info to her. and if they have no children together i dont think she has any right whatsoever. besides if she wants more money from him she shouldnt need a tax return ...all she would have to do is petition the court saying she thinks he makes more than he used to and they will review the case using a W2.
Are there children involved? That can warrant a look at the tax return.
In the state I live in, yes she can, but she would still have to go to court to change what she's getting. But your state may be different.
I strongly recommend you talk to a lawyer, because you can get screwed bad if her lawyer knows you dont know what you doing.
If you have filed joint returns, yes, without question. Separate filing may or may not provide some insulation, I am not sure, but a joint return has HIS data on it and is fair game, yours just happens to be on it as well. The ex is entitled to know her formers status.
Answer:
She can't, but her lawyer can insist on it.
Nope, she is going to see it. You guys are married so your income is his income. I know....it sucks.
Hell yes deny her from seeing it! That's your personal information and she has no right to demand access to it. She can't take money from you, and her past marriage to your husband should have no bearing on any taxes you two pay or receive while still married. Tell her to butt out of your lives! Good luck!
