Yes, it's bad to break a lease for an apartment. You will lose your deposit and can be sued for mulitiple things. First is any damages you might have done to the apartment, then for the rent thru the rest of the lease. So speak your lease is from Jan to Jan, but you left in June. You could then be sued for July, August, Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec rent, especially if the hotelier had trouble renting out the apartment on such short notice. You would be responsible for paying all the rent owed to the tenant until they found a new tenant, and in some places that can take till the finishing of your agreed lease. You don't want to be stuck paying rent for a place you weren't even living in!
