Bench warrant?
I missed my court date for a littering ticket (notebook paper 1 sheet) almost 1 1/2 yrs ago and have a bench warrant. I called the number to ask where on earth I need to go for my original court date and they give me the wrong city as where to go. After I found out I was sent to the wrong city I go to the city court downtown and I was told no fine only warrant for arrest. I dont know what to do now since its be this long. If I turn myself in is it possible I will serve anytime? Any suggestions on what I should do would be great. Also Ive moved since then and when I tried to contact them over the phone they say they cannot furnish the information out over the phone and that I need to come in. Should I hire a lawyer subsidise there or what? Please help. Thanks
If you turn yourself in you will serve time. I would bid them again about this, that seems odd that they wouldn't present you any details as to what to do over the phone. Ask to speak with someone higher than them, or go to the courthouse surrounded by the town you got the ticket and say you want to know the balance within order to pay. You might want to have a ancestral member or friend there that can help you repay the ticket, if you cannot do so upon arrival. A lawyer for a bench warrant is a waste of money, unless you can get him/her to attain the information you can't.
