Some of my things (microwave, etc) doesn't work anymore bc of a storm while I was @ a college.Who should i cal
I'm attending a summer program at a medical center and they have us housed at a nearby college. While here, a t-storm occurred and my microwave & mini fridge got damaged (they don't work anymore) and my TV doesn't have any color now. I know its not the outlet b/c i've plugged my appliances into other jacks that do work and they still do not work. Shouldn't I get compensated for this or something? Should I contact the people that are over housing at the college or the people over the program? Thanks
Contacting your insurance is the first step. If you did not get renter's insurance you may not be out of luck. If this was only a temporary stay, like the summer, some homeowners policies extend to cover that as well. So if you regularly live at home with you parents or rent someone where else where you have renters insurance, it may still be covered.
Well here's what probably happened to your electronics: a bolt of electricity hit nearby, sending a serge of electricity through the outlets, frying the insides of your gadgets. So who exactly would you like to sue? God for making it storm? The electric company? The school for housing you? The makers of your electronics? Or perhaps you should take a little responsibility for yourself for not unplugging your electronics during a lighting storm.
for future storms if you don't have renters insurance Unplug as many items as possible and use surge protectors. Sorry to say but someone can't be held responsible for Mother nature causing damage to your items.
good luck
Nope. Sounds like a power surge caused by an electrical storm wiped out your electronics. That's why you should have surge protectors for your stuff, even though a big enough surge will overwhelm the protector.
This is the classic 'act of God'. Not the college's fault. Sorry you lost your stuff!
Your rental insurance carrier. If you are in college someone must have told you to carry insurance.
ALWAYS carry insurance.
I would contact people that are over housing. Depending on what your policy is there might be some sort of insurance coverage so you can get new things.
