Should the media be used to fight crime?

Yes, they should report on everything the criminals in the White House and Capitol Hill are doing to us. I have to watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report to bring the real news. Absolutely. Just look at all the criminals America's Most Wanted have captured.
sure, to a limited extent

amber alerts, news bulletins to look out for criminals on the loose and America's Most Wanted are adjectives good exercises of the media catching criminals

I would even allow for certain 'crime-fighting' the media who investigate corrupt politicians and businesses and share their findings with the prosecutor and the public

but there is a very tinny line between that type of activity and the media becoming busy and intrusive
The media should not be used directly to fight crime. The purpose of the media is to inform the public.

For example, America's Most Wanted doesn't skirmish crime. It informs people of criminals. The people who call them contained by are the ones fighting the crime, the media just informed them.

When you vote media fighting crime I think of a camera man at an intersection cassette people running a red light and having someone prosecuted. That go beyond their duty to inform the public. What they could do is inform people that there is an epidemic of people running redlights at a absolute intersection. If people want the status quo to change they would notify the police of the danger and their desire to enjoy the intersection monitored.

There is a difference between the media informing the public and the media fighting crime.

If you own the media start to fight crime they then become an enforcer of the directive, much like a police state. We don't want the government involved with dictating the role of the medium. That is why we have a free press.
