3 hours of work?

I was told by a friend that by law, a worker must be given at least 3 hours of work once he arrives at work if he was not notified beforehand that he should not come in. Is this true?
It might depend on which state you live in. Oregon used to have a half-day rule, but dumped it. In Oregon, your employer can legally require you to show up for work and send you home when you are no longer needed. They have to pay you for your time there.
100% not true

Answer:
at the UAW it was four hours and a short work week but a non union shop I think you are right as the worker should have been called off...i was told when I reported to my non union security job at the time my shift began not to work as they had someone else take my place..but i ended up getting paid for the whole day as the boss did not think that was right..
each state is different and you would have to check with the employment securtiy commision in each state for an answer
At my job you have to work for an hour even if you are called off once you get there. But if you don't clock in before hand it you can go home.
It might be different in other states.
