Do you think they should make polygamy ( marrying more than one partner) legal in the U.S?

I think that if a man/woman want to marry more than one person it shouldnt be a problem.
i guess its okay if the spouses know and they all live together in a mormon kind of way, but it would be a problem if the spouses didnt know.
however, legal polygamy would probably make the one in two divorce rate go down (if only temoraraly)
I think we should accept the fact that men, by nature, are not monogamous. I doubt many can support more than one family. France seems to have figured it out, the family for legal reasons and to propagate, the mistress everyone expects on the side. This is a comment, not my opinion.
I agree.

If a man/ woman wants to marry more than one person and they are financially capable of caring for the kids they may create, then it should be up to them if they want to be together.

I don't think the government has any place in that decision.
Yes. And gay marriage too.

Too the poster above me, if shes going behind his back, it wont matter if its legal. And life insurance is not split, its given to the people it is designated to be left to.
It will be a big problem (taxation-wise). Too many deductions from gross income and Welfare drawings which will reduce the revenues for the government and impose the unfair burden on the non-polygamists ones. That is exactly why the polygamists in Utah, and other states, are presently a problem.
I feel that as long as it wasn't just men who are able to marry more then one wife then sure; but if there is the standard of only men having more women no.

Answers:
No. At the very least, the State should not recognize polygamous marriages.

Although it would be nice to allow people to do what they want, particularly if they can afford it, the social costs of polygamy are too high. By reserving many women for few men, polygamy contributes to a rise in violent crime and a demand for prostitution, depletes the gene pool, and generates enormous clans that eventually take over the government. Notice that since deep antiquity, polygamy was never practiced in democratic states (with occasional exceptions for country leaders only). While polygamy is suitable for the lifestyle of tribal societies, it fits in ill with our political and social structure, and culture.
I don't understand why any man would want to do that to themselves.

Most already complain about one woman complaining.. just imagine if they had two or more... they would never be able to watch a quiet football game again.

The only women that would be offended by this would be the women that actually act this way. Most of my friends are guys and this is what I hear from them.

Kind of works both ways.. men get tired of women complaining and the women get tired of complaining to the men.
So you wouldn't mind then your wife going behind your back and marrying two or three other men.. having families.. and then when she passes you find out about all her other lives and families and you have no money to support your own family- because all the money you guys put in for life insurance got split amongst all the families... sure.. sounds like a great plan
