Question about a deceased family member and their assets.?
My uncle passed away but he did not leave any will or news of beneficiary. His mother, wants to find out how can she know how to find out if he left behind any assets of any kind (bank accts, investments, etc.). Basically what we want to know is who can we consult near or where can we go in direct to find out. We believe that his wife doesn't know either but we aren't going to ask her either due to family issues. Please oblige, thanks.
Probably going to need a lawyer. In copious states, what was his is now his wife's. If it was substantial amount of assets it will automatically be in motion to probate court. Check the courthouse in the county that he lived in.
If a individual has not prepared a will.... the "state" has one that automatically applies..... and you probably won't like it.
The rules redeploy by state. Contact your state government. Your BLUE pages in your phone book is adjectives the government agencies.
You will need to contact the probate court and either enjoy his wife or your mother assigned as executor in order to find out about any assets. Your best bet to find the proper numbers or organization is to check with the government in your nouns, ask about assigning an Executor for a deceased person that did not sign out a Will, and/or Will Probate.....it will take at least one year to distribute any assets.....good luck
To bad for you. You may not similar to your Aunt, but she is first in line. it would depend on how the assets were held (trust/surviorship/etc) and how big the estate be
Why is it any of her business?
