Should I Not Be Furious?
I recently visited a restaurant in New York City and after I paid the tab and headed towards the exit, the security staff stopped me and accused me of stealing a pepper shaker. After I told him emphatically that I didn't, he continued to refuse an exit to me and grabbed my wrist. I broke away from him and stated that I didn't take a pepper shaker. The waitress went to my table and found the pepper shaker. The security personnel apologized and stated that he was just doing his job and that this happens often. He also stated that the waitress who waited on my friend and I said that we had taken the pepper shaker. What the hell?
You should talk to the manager - he at least owes you a free meal
Lawsuit!
Answers:
You can sue the waitress for slander, sue the security guard for assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and false arrest, sue the restaurant for everything above, plus negligent hiring. If they do not immediately apologize and pay you something after sending a 'demand letter', file the lawsuit. It will cost you next to nothing. When they try to settle out of court, do not sign any release or waiver that includes a confidentiality agreement, since you've already made your feelings public. You are also free to file criminal charges against the security bozo for simple assault, if not also false arrest. Call the local health inspector to ask if the are going to do anything about the rats at that restaurant.
Hope they learn their lesson. If they want to treat an innocent person like a criminal, then there will be consequences.
Take your business elseware.
Simple.
Yes, you should be furious. You should complain to management/ownership, and if the guy actually grabbed you, you should press charges.
A security guard does not have the power of arrest so can not detain you against your will. If he fausly accuses you of something you don't even need to talk to him. If he man handles you he is liable for injury. Did the resturant give you a free meal? They should have!
Talk to the manager. Take that b*tch's job. I can't stand indignant wait staff. Even if you did take the pepper shaker (which I do not endorse, mind you), she acted like it was coming out of her check or something.
