Is this bit of non smoking regulation stupid or what?

Let me make this bit plain first.I do not smoke... but if I did then according to the guidlines there is something stupid.
I actually visit clients in their own homes...I am there to persuade them to do something so I am not going to try to persuade them not to smoke whilst I am there. It is their right to smoke in their own homes..BUT...if I were a smoker... it says that despite the fact they are smoking.I cannot.!! Now is that stupid or what?
A ban is not a bad idea and there are some good points.

However, typical of the world today,it is bad legislation pushed through by the nanny state do-gooders,who have to go over the top, without thinking it through.

Once you move from obvious puplic places such as pubs, shops, etc We get a law which is impossible to enforce in many circumstances, full of anomalies and quite likely has many loopholes which Joe Public will soon discover.

People respect good laws but deride bad ones.

The law will thus be broken millions of times everyday by millions of people, perhaps on a technicality, maybe deliberately.

Furthermore banning anything only drives it underground, prohibition in the States for instance.

Thus who knows what is going on behind closed doors not open to the public but are now classed as no smoking buildings??
very! i agree.
i have heard that sales people council officials etc can demand that no one has smoked in the house now for 1 1/2 hours before they enter. if i hear the bailiffs are coming i will chain smoke for a few hours first pmsl
it is getting ridiculous.
Not when it sounds more like a company policy to prevent being sued for several things i can see them being able to sue you for, should the situations arise after you smoked in their homes.
Not at all. The occupants have a right to pollute the air of their house; that does not give you a right to do so.
well stupid to most of the ppl on here - but not to the overpaid, jumped up MP's who drafted the legistration - they are not in the real world !
I am a smoker, and I see what you are saying, but I would never dream of smoking while visiting a clients home even if they do smoke. It's kinda like being a bartender and sitting and gambling and drinking with your bar guests. It is just not an okay thing to do according to society these days. I think we should all rethink our values in America these days and figure out that these petty rules that have been put in place really don't matter, there are bigger issues.

Answer:
Stupid? Yes, it is. I do smoke and to do so in my own home is my right. If you, as a salesperson, come invited into my home and wish to smoke then I have no objection nor should your company. If you, as a salesperson, are invited into my home and object to my smoking then you will be quickly 'un'-invited and asked to leave without a sale. But as you made the point you are there to make a sale and not to monitor my smoking habit. I find it a bit of a stupid rule because a salesperson should be able to 'bond' with a customer. Without the salesperson being able to do something that the customer can identify with then they have lost a part of their sale's kit. Minor or trivial? Certainly not, when sales competition is keen and your job could depend upon making that sale.
You are at work; they are not. Can you figure it out from here?
No I understand why your work wouldn't want you to smoke.. Say you are going to go to another house, Now your clothes smell like smoke and so does your breath and maybe the new house doesn't like the smell and doesn't let you in.. Now your company might have lost a sell that they would have got. If they don't care if you smoke in the car on the way to the house then yes it is very stupid!!
no, its great, sick of washing the smoke smell out of my clothes or being blinded by smoke in pubs
Yeah there is something stupid up above but I don't think it is the rule or regulation.
