Don't Smokers Have Rights?

Why are smokers being treated so badly when the government continues to allow cigarettes to be made? I work at a federal full-grown training program and the students must stand outside in the cold with no shelter in directive to smoke. non-smokers laugh about it. I think they're one treated unfairly. Should they write their congressman?
very well smoking is a nasty habit and i think that they should simply outlaw it all together. it hurts you and everyone around you!! do you know how many ppl die a year from smoking and second-hand smoke! innocent ppl are dying from second paw smoke and its no their fault! its the fault of the ppl smoking!!!!! :[
Studies now show that obesity puts people at a difficult risk for more cancers than smoking does, why dont we ban fat society instead of cigarettes? We should but it seems the fashionable thing to do is bash smokers. Don't we rate taxes (more when you consider the ones on cigarettes), just like anyone else??
I agree, everyone should write and demand equal rights for smokers.
Smokers rights end when they infringe on the well one of others. This is the same as any other right. Any of your rights end when they infringe on the well individual of others. You, presumably as a smoker, lose your rights to smoke where you want when you interfere with the well person of a fellow student. You interfere with the well being of a fellow student/faculty contestant because second hand smoke is dangerous. If second hand smoke have never been proven to be dangerous then we wouldn't be have this discussion.
They can smoke. No one said they could not. They have a right to poison themselves if they like.

What they can not do is expose unwilling bystanders to inhale what they do not. As another poster said, another's right to smoke stops where on earth my right to breath begins. They can smoke, but they have to chose where they can do it that will not expose others to the smoke. Just resembling driving, dancing, going naked, getting drunk and having sex....I own a right to do all those things, but probably not all at the same time nor surrounded by just any old place I might like.

By the agency, my dad finally quit smoking in 2004. He also quit breathing.
The smoking issue is the single most lied about issue in the history of the world.

Our policy is about money anyway and our government could careless if you or I die tomorrow.

The problem is that smokers only just sit back and take all the BS.

And settle all the taxes that our government and some idiot people deliberate is fair.

And their "science" is not about truth but about what they want it to be.

In Hitlers Germany he said "we do these things for the obedient of all", how is this any different then the Smoke-Nazis of today.

They are brutal and absolute liars. No question something like that.

In 2003 the British Medical Journal released the longest, most indepth study on so-called "second hand smoke", and the result? Second hand smoke had no genuine effect on anyones health. The President of the American Heart Assoc. wrote a letter to them and asked them why they released the results. Why? Because the result was not what he needed it to be.

Make no mistake that this issue has it's effects. Those that lie and cry about smoking will someday stipulation something, and a smoker maybe their only resource, and this is one smoker that will tell them to progress straight to hell.
the goverment alowes cigret compenys to do what they plz beacuse they enjoy a lot of money and power. im srry the students have to stand out in the cold no it not thoroughly nice and they should be treated better, but at the same time its not good to force cigret smoke on nonsmokers who might not be to happy around that. perhaps they should get a smokers hall or room. personal i want there was no cigrets there awfull and adictive and its not celebration that they adict people but like i said its a big mony buisness they wont just budge away wich is kinda sad. Smoking outside is required in a non-smoking building unless a smoking room has separate drying to the outside. That is why you have to go outside because most companies won't pony up the $$$ to pay for drying.

Let the others laugh all they want. If they were a smoker, they wouldn't be laughing, so rebuff it and any snide remarks.

Congress will not help.

*** for shelter, in my old building we have a canopy to protect up from the rain, in my brand new one, nothing. No law requires shelters for smokers.

Yes it's unfair, purely like drinkers, the taxes on smokes and alcohol are high... Why not tax Soda? Heck, associates throw soda cans all over the place...

It sucks, but being a smoker myself, I hold to deal with it.

If you can, park close to the entrance to your building so that if it is raining, you can sit in your vehicle and smoke... Just roll the windows down a bit so the air flows through.

Only other choice is to quit, and you have to "Want To" contained by order to do that.

Such is Life...
Yes they should. And Wartz, your analysis of liberty is truly shallow. You would use the rule of law to impose your will on other fellow Americans. As a non smoker I do not get the crybaby mentality of other non smokers. It is not constitutional to ban behavior especially on a legal drug. But if Wartz is cool with the denial of civil liberty, than fine more power to him. But as for me, I find the banning the use of legal substances ridiculous and at the same time fearsome. Smokers (I am not one) pay taxes; lots of taxes, for their habit. They have rights though. I similar to beer. As long as they don't blow smoke in my face, I won't p*ss in their ashtray.

They should bring a lawyer.
I answered this inpart to your other Smoking Question on Q&A . Your whining about your disgusting lethal habit breaks my heart. Your rights ruin where my nose begins.
What do you mean have no rights? They own the right to smoke outside. Saying that people should have the right to smoke in public places is close to saying that you should be allowed to drive your car into the restaurant and leave it running while you drink around others. I am a smoker, and unfortunatley we do have to stand 50 feet away from any door way to prevent smoke from going within the building. This is to keep those who feel "we" are invading there airspace next to toxic smoke. Wait... isnt there more toxic fumes that come from ... car fumes,buses,18 wheelers, refineries, chemical plants. May I append that the later two are hardly ever fined for the exhaust that they put out illegally.
Dying from second appendage smoke or cancer ( lung ) - there are more deaths from drunk drivers than there are from individuals who die from smoking related deaths .
Now I'll get off my soap box, contained by answer to your question we could write all day to our congress men and women but beside so many tree huggers out there it would never pass.
