If you are a NON-GUN OWNER, i'd just like to know WHY?!?!???????????
obviously some of you are not old enough, but for those of you who are-
i really would like to know why.
maybe you like guns, but have been strapped for cash lately, maybe you hate guns, but have tons of money to buy one if you wanted to. maybe youve never touched a gun and dont know if its a good idea to pick one up or not.
i have many close friends who have told me that they would never purchase a gun, and they all have their own reasons, im just interested in what YOUR reason is for NOT owning a gun.
i dont live in a bad neighborhood by any means, if anything i live in a nice neighborhood, about 5 minutes from the beach. but i feel so much safer about having guns in my possession, just in case i need to protect myself, or my friends [roomates].
nowadays, i hear about people getting killed over a $200 television. i hate hearing that, its not fair.
please tell me how you feel about this,
the best answer WILL get a best answer.
I don't feel it's necessary to own a firearm. I have faith in my home security system and my baseball bat.
Nicer neighborhoods will get robbed before the ghetto, because that is where the money is!
Some of us non gun owners, are not allowed to have a firearm due to Government Laws, this would be my only reason.
However my wife owns a few!
I am a non gun owner because i don't believe guns do justice. if I killed some 1 for breaking into my home for example, that doesn't prevent the next robber from doing it. me killing that person wouldn't change a thing. folks will still continue to do dirt and hurt others. Also, I wouldn't feel really protected by a gun. I could have a gun and still get hurt by the next person who has 1. as well as a lot of accidents happen with guns. people are not responsible and I just rather not have 1.
Well firstly it's illegal for me to own one as I live in Britain and do not have 'sporting or work-related interest' in owning one - self defence is not a reason for buying one here. In addition the laws are that you can only own shotguns; rifles and especially pistols (not to mention automatic weapons) are illegal here.
Even if I lived in the US I do not believe owning a gun would solve any problems. I think that even if someone was KNOWN to own a gun that would hardly deter someone desperate enough to kill over $200 - and pointing a gun at them is hardly going to make them more rational. Weapons ALWAYS escalate a situation.
I am fortunate enough to live in a country which until very recently has very little gun culture, and even now it's only in the big cities. We simply have not had the need to ever have guns as part of everyday society, it's not part of our culture.
grow up ! who needs weapons at home? maybe for hunting but thats all!
For me I do not own a gun, my boyfriend owns a gun but he keeps it at his parents house. I don't want my little children to get a hold of a gun and accidently kill themselves. It makes logical sense to not have one when you have little children. I for one hear so many stories of children accidently killing themselves that it scares me half to death to have one in my home. I also live in a nice neighborhood, and have a house alarm. So, I feel safe enough to not own a gun. Thank you.
because i live in a country were guns aren't allowed, and we have only 2 murders a year for the entire country....
we are all safe and don't fear for our lives. our government loves us, we love them....we are more free in all ways then american....and i am american.
i love guns i just wish ammo wasn't so high now
Got busted for a firearm violation 11 years ago. Oh yeah...felony. Still not allowed to own one to this day. Freaking California DOJ and firearm laws.
Still didn't stop me though.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people....FACT.
Personally I feel much safer owing a firearm
Peace of mind is a beautiful thing.
I am not old enough to own a weapon that is leathal, but I do own and airsoft gun. The only reason I would buy a gun is to protect myself from an intruder (which is usually the purpose of buying a gun). My 400 feet per-second P90 airsoft gun is good enough of a defense. Empty the mag, and they'll be down on the floor screaming. When I am old enough however, I will certainly buy a SIG P226 for self defense. I can understand why people would not want a gun however. Some bull crap about making the gun less standard. Though if everyone had a gun, some crazy stuff would be going down. Not everyone can be responsible enough with a lethal device like you or me.
I believe people kill not guns. The gun can be used as a weapon , but also as source of food. To me it's not just about banning guns, it's about our rights. If this what next? Where does it all end and what about our rights. If have that law, do you really think it is going to stop someone from getting a gun? NO! And what will we use to protect our self or family, when the time does come?
I don't own a gun, have no need for one, but not to say the next person doesn't go hunting to feed his family!
Just my thought on the whole gun issue.
I would not want to own a gun, for protection, because it is expensive>,license ,and for shooting practice .And I might shoot some one by mistake .I would rather be aware and cautious around me .And study karate or jujitso..
Not comfortable around firearms. Seeing them on police even makes me nervous. 95% of people around me are also do not own guns. The few that do, were veterans and do not showcase or talk about using their firearms. I guess I am scared of the unfamiliar. Fear the responsibility of accidents.
I'm a Brit living in Texas, and while I really don't feel the need for owning a gun, I don't think it is a bad thing to have for the sake of protecting your home and family, Mordent in the UK says that he comes from a country where there is virtually no gun culture until recently, and that's quite true, but what he doesn't point out is that if someone breaks into your home in the UK you are only allowed to use reasonable force, which is totally crazy, and while there is little gun crime in the UK, there is I would say a higher degree of lawlessness and not enough protection for the decent law abiding people.
In my mind you should be allowed to protect your home and family by any means possible, so instantly stopping some scum bag via the use of a firearm from ransacking your home and threatening your family is a fair way of doing it, this may sound harsh but it seems to me that the dead victims of crime are too easily forgotten, while the rights of criminals are not.
Answer:
legislation mainly. i used to have guns for recreation. a friend of mine lived on 150 acres in rockdale texas so a few of us got all our toys together & went there from austin to go shooting. on the way back we were pulled over for being the only truck around at 1am. no crime committed, all guns legal, the 3 of us without warrants & the trucks papers in order. still, we were arrested & the guns confiscated. the guns werent returned despite suing the county. the guns were later sold in a local gunshop owned by the sherriff. irony, i had a .32 from 1901 that matt wanted to buy. i wanted to keep it. he ended up buying it from the gun shop for $600. this left me with a bad taste about the whole thing. theyre too expensive to collect. if used to protect myself id get charged for assault. if found with one its a charge even if no crime is committed. they dont need to take them away like the nazis & communists did, just legislate the hell out of it & we'll disarm ourselves. pair that with the propaganda making people dislike them (as seen in some of these answers). as for the 2nd ammendment which is there to keep the government in check, its powerless & may be used as the reason to attack us. only legislation can stop them & its fast becoming too late for that while our citizens grow more apathetic & blind.
