Do you think the U.S. government should implement drug testing to be on welfare?

I think this a great question and an even better idea. Now that I am middle class and a little older (having to work my way through school and life), I look back and remember all the times my mom had to stand in a welfare line. Of course, we didn't have much in way of anything, and in the parking lot sat our run down station wagon. However, I remember people rolling up with their cadillacs, town cars, and shiny new rims. They would wear great clothes and stand in line talking on their expensive cell phones while I was observantly thinking 'unfair' but accepted the fact that some people had more and trying to be grateful for what I had. Now, I realize not only was it unfair but it wrong and demoralizing to the system and those who really needed the assistance.
Yes I agree...I get so frustrated to see my hard earned money go to people like that....It amazes me how they dont have money for food but yet can afford drugs, beer, and cigarettes.
I've also been there, and could not agree more.
Yes, I do believe that anyone accepting welfare funds from our tax dollars should be randomly drug tested. They should also do this for public housing.
No, b/c if they can't get money through welfare than the crime rate will rise. A society is only as strong as its poorest people.

Answer:
Some people will not sell their souls for the sake of material things.. Your mother was a very honest woman who deserved the help.. She was blessed to be poor because you came out of that envirorment and can testify to the robbery of those who abuse the system..

soonier then later, many people like you will raise up and set the record straight..

So yes, if we are paying for these people to be supported and in our jobs today, we have to undergo drug screening to get a job, to pay taxes that goes to them, then yes, they should have to also..
Sure, add another layer of multi-billion dollar bureaucracy for drug testing. That should eliminate fraud.
You know that is is a good question, but in order to get welfare you must have children so if the parents are unable to get welfare because of their drug usage then the children suffer, but then again how much of the welfare is actually going to support the children when the parents are using it to buy drugs. Then if the parents drug test come back positive are the children going to be put into an already overburdened Child Protective Services system. We might have more money for CPS if there weren't so many people on welfare. Like i said it is a good question, but kind of a double edged sword.
Sounds fair to me. Same for unemployment and food stamps too.
Absolutely! Great idea! When are you entering politics so i can vote for you?
Yup, and parenting classes so people understand the impact of their example on their children. Kudos on a good question.
If you have the millions of dollars all this testing would cost, then perhaps you should write a letter to your elected officials suggesting such a thing and offering to pay for it.

.
yea it's a great idea in theory, but where is the government going to get all the money to do this drug testing, from the tax payers! they should just instead increase the police force, then when those people are in jail we wont be wasting money on them for welfare.
It makes sense if they need a handout they should deserve it
Yes, they should be tested.
Also they should be made to stop making babies, if you can not afford one now, why have more. With the new method of birth control that last 5 year with no side effect and is reversible, its make since. also say men who make babies and don't support them should also be made to have some type of control to stop them. I know some of you will say it not the government right to tell people how many children they should have. If you are one of them, either you are on welfare or maybe you can give them money to raise they child. Don't take may money, I need it more.
Yes, drug testing for public assistance makes sense. Especially since Bush made it so that you can't receive financial aid if you have ever been convicted of a drug charge. If you won't allow people to educate themselves because they are drug user, we damn sure should not allow them to sit at home not working and using drugs on our tax dollars.
