I dont know about other UK schools but sports day may as well not exist anymore. No races or relays etc allowed because kids should not compete with one another!!.LIFE IS ABOUT COMPETING is it not?.Its learning to accept that there will always be someone better at something than you...and as equally there is someone who is not as good at something as you...Its about learning and respecting and accepting others.its about trying harder...or not trying at all if its not what you want.Am i just too harsh ?

Friendly competition in schools is very good, but if it becomes a bitter rivalry, then it is bad for children. Can you justify fighting wars by saying that history is a competition between nations? My opinion is that rather than abolishing anything competitive, students should be taught the principles of friendly competition and good sportsmanship.
My daughters school just had non competive sports day,i agree with you..Any way schools just used for social boxing...When i went to school i asked what i wanted to know and all they did was tell me what to do..Its the expectations put on the kids refuse collectors kids get different aspirations put on them that say doctors kids..
no you are not being harsh i agree with you..there should still be competitons between kids at school, because it makes them more competitive, and motivates them to work harder to be the best. I donno whats happening with the school to be honest.

I have sports day for my two oldest boys this Monday coming,
Everyone gets prizes, win or lose.
But your right,someone is better then me at a lot a things but i may be better then them at other things.
we are all diffrent and that is what makes us all great in our own way.
Schools have changed a lot in the time since i last went i think they are worse in a lot a aways.
I do not think the above you wrote was harsh at all
