How do I report phone fraud?


I got a call last dark, the guy ask about my visa card with the last 4 number xxxx. I said I did not own a vise then he said sorry for the mistake and hung up. The phone and the house is in my moms name, I don't even own a checking account yet. How did this guy get my pet name and number, and where did he get a credit card number with my heading on it? How and to whom do I report this?

Could have gotten your name and number from anywhere. Although your phone may be in your mother's first name im sure you have disclosed the number as being your own on various forms that where on earth distributed to telemarketers. Maybe even via the internet. The credit card number was probally fake. The idea person if you had owned on, you would have pointed out the mistake and corrected it by providing the correct last 4 digits. More later likely, he was just trying to trick you into giving that information, after prehaps later would have planned to steal your statement from the mail. Any type of fraud or attempted fraud you should purely report to the local police, if needed they would redirect the information to another authority. The best way to play it safe, Never contribute your banking info over the phone. If they need to contact you for something, politely decline the call and send for them back at the number listed on the back of your card once or if you obtain one.
