What happens to US soldiers previously convicted of maltreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib et al.?
With the recent release of memos that detail "enhanced interrogation techniques" I've been wondering what legal recourse soldiers who have be prosecuted for detainee abuse might have. The most notable one might be Lynndie England. Who be convicted in 2005 of prisoner abuse. It appears now, that the memos released by the Obama direction bolsters her defense team's claims that they were following orders. (Not that following orders legal defense - i.e. the Nuremburg Trials.) Many of the most provocative photographs are of techniques specifically authorised by the memos. Nine US soldiers were prosecuted for maltreatment of detainees at Abu Grhaib. Lynndie England be one, she was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Charles Graner was sentenced to 10 years contained by prison. Their defense was that they were just following directions. The prosecution argued that they were breaking the law, and the Bush Administration claimed that they were a short time ago a few bad apples. Now, we find that they were telling the truth, they be just following orders. What happens in a minute? Should they be pardoned, should their dishonorable discharges be changed? Additionally, the Obama Administration says no CIA Officers will be prosecuted for following orders. Is that not a double standard? This isn't intended to be a forum for anti-bush or anti-obama rhetoric, but to spark debate. Please constraint responses to the question at hand, and do not use this as a pulpit to spit hate. There is zilch constructive that can come out of divisive comments.

I don't think undressed dogpiles were included in the memos, so no, they were probably not following directives.
I merely want to publicly say THANK YOU to President Bush for keeping America SAFE post 9-11. He may have not been the best President surrounded by other areas but it is a FACT that our interagations stopped multiple bombings and aided in the killing of al qaeda leaders. So, NO Im not sorry we poured hose down on their mass murdering, suicide bombing asses! As every day & every decision goes by, I can't for the go of me understand why the droves of 'lefties' can't see that Obama is the most un-American, anti-Freedom, un-Constitutional President to ever hold our prestigious office! BUSH: "I vowed to do everything in my power to hold on to us safe. ... And with strong allies at our side, we have taken the box to the terrorists and those who support them," he said. "There is legitimate debate about many of these decision. But there can be little debate about the results. America has gone more than seven years short another terrorist attack on our soil." He protected our Nation and prevented another attack on U.S. soil for more than seven years, modernized our national security institutions and tools of war, and bolstered our homeland security. Under the President's see, numerous terrorist attacks have been prevented in the United States. These include: An attempt to bomb fuel tank at JFK airport; A plot to blow up airliners bound for the East Coast; A plan to destroy the tallest skyscraper in Los Angeles; A plot by six al Qaeda inspired individuals to kill soldiers at Fort Dix Army Base contained by New Jersey; A plan to attack a Chicago-area shopping mall using grenades; and A plot to attack the Sears Tower in Chicago.
I doubt Bush and his government are going to step up take blame and go to detention centre for them. I don't agree with what they did to those prisoners but I do think they were made the scapegoats.
