If u are going to believe cant u believe in something?

i dont need any stupid answers its just that i dont understand non believers.what is the risk in believing in god how can u not everything you have and u see do u think man could really pull that off it all started somewhere and and it is just annoying to see people not give god the credit i know he is in my life and maybe if u open your eyes you will realize the time that he was in yours you couldnt make it alone you dont have that much power what are u thinking? i pray for u and hope that u will see before it is too late.
The risk? That would be having to set aside my common sense and logic in order to believe in something that cannot be proven, has no real evidence to back it up, and, since it doesn't exist, serves no purpose. Then there's the risk of wasting my life trying to get other people to believe in it, too.

BTW, you do know that there's a Religion & Spirituality section here, right?
I honestly find your question quite offensive. I am an atheist because I firmly believe there is no such thing as a god. For me to declare otherwise would be a lie - a lie to myself and to others.

And I believe in honesty above all things - so the risk of me going around claiming I 'believe' in somethng I truly don't - would be for me to live my life as a lie. Why can't 'believers' understand how much worse that would be?

Also you're really not giving people enough credit - if you think that all we have achieved must be because a 'god' is helping us? Humans are capable of a lot without any 'divine' help.

Risk has nothing to do with it. You can't just switch from 'not' believing to believing. It would be 'pretending' to believe, like many churchgoers do to conform or to be 'on the safe side'. If God really does exist, being God, I sure that he/she would see through the charade.

BTW... I'm an Agnostic, not an Atheist. There is a big difference.

This question is not necessarily in the wrong category. In the U.S. religion and politics are closely tied.

God simply doesn't make sense to me. It's not about 'risk', per se...It's about logic.

Once upon a time, the Christian God didn't exist to man. Instead, there were multiple gods. People took these gods just as seriously, too. Many Christians think those ancient religions are silly just as some future religion will think Christianity is silly. Currently, I think they're all a bit silly.
I don't want to make it mean but I am an Agnostic too. Only I believe there are higher beings above human. However, I don't believe the thing as the 'Religious'. Why going to Church every sunday and think that you will go to heaven?
it doesn't seem scientific right to me. I think as long as I am a good person, I will go to heaven. Heaven may not even exist. Earth can be just an atom, or an election! or smalling than that, the q..(forgot how to spell it) .

So a murderer who is into religious and turn back to god will eventually go to heaven and those who is neutral and been good but atheist go to hell?

Those who is into religious give me the idea that they can't make a standard laws for themselves that they need to look for higher being for help.

I think the best example that god does not exist is the 900 different cults(or religions, whatever you want to call them) like christianity, buddhism,that all have different beliefs, yet the same premise, WORLD DOMINANCE.
