If i don't pay my citation what happens?
i'm 17 now and i got a couple of citations when i was like 15 and i still haven't payed them due to lack of money but now i have a job and need to pay those tickets so i can get my drivers license and i wanna know if the fines on the citation will go thru the roof.
There is probably a warrant out for your arrest. That means that if you get pulled over they can, and probably will, take you straight to jail.
No matter what, call the courthouse ASAP and find out what you need to do to settle up. Then do whatever it is. Trust me, it's not worth a night in the 'pokie' to avoid it any longer!
Good Luck!!
Whatever is going to happen on those citations has happened. They may have gone 'through the roof' already. It will never get better if you delay taking action on it now. Do so ASAP. The worst case scenario is a warrant may be issued for your arrest.
Answer:
Well, I had my drivers license suspended because I got a ticket for an adult passenger not wearing his seatbelt. We had just pulled out of a driveway of a shopping center, and my passenger wasn't wearing his seat belt. Cop gave both of us a ticket. Well, long story short, the cop screwed up my information, and when I went to pay it, they had no record of it, so I let it go. Well, I got a job where they run a background check on you, and there was warrant out for non-payment! It started out as $80, then by this time, it was $375. A year and a half after the fact, I had to pay the ticket, and go before the judge to have my license re-instated. Best to just take care of them and make sure everything is correct, and always maintain copies of everything! My best friend just had to go to court last week because they took her tax refund for non-payment and non-completion of community service from when she was 15. She's 24 now! She had actually completed everything back when she was supposed to, but, due to an error, it never got reported back to the juvenile courts. They've had a warrant on her for 9 years now, and she just learned about it when she got her taxes withheld. Just some food for thought. Just take care of it NOW! :) Good luck!
You'll spend some time in jail... I can't remember how they charge you with a bench warrent. I do know that a 200.00$ fine equals about a week and a half in jail, and the more the fine is the less time you serve... Unless it's a felony or something.
200.00 = 1 1/2 weeks
250.00 = 1 3/4 weeks
300.00 = 2 1/4 weeks
The math is something like that.
Contact the court, and inquire as to the status of your license, and you. I'm surprised you haven't received something in the mail.
Best thing to do is pay the citations. Go to the court where the citations are from and inquire on the money owed. Most court systems understand people do not have the money to pay the fines all at once and will allow you to make a payment plan. Do not wait on this, it will only cause you embarrasment when the warrants finally catch up with you and lead to your arrest. Nothing more embarrsing than getting arrested in front of a group of your friends. I have seen it happen many times.
usually if you don't pay, they issue a warrant for your arrest
