Cost of Living Adjustment, is it mandatory in this state (IL)?? Is it fair no one gets a raise company wide?

We have not rec'd a raise at all this year. There is a rumor we may not get a raise. Is that fair?

Answer:
It depends. If you work for the governement, you most likely have a COLA built in to your contract with your agency or government entity.

If you work in the private sector pay increases are discretionary and you have no right to a raise.

In fact, your coworker could be the only one to receive a raise and you'd have no recourse.
