Do you think they were right in charging the three cops that shot the groom 50 times?
yes
Being a paralegal, I know that having all of the facts is the only way to make an informed decision. We, as lay people on the outside, are relying on the skewed, biased, one-sided and incomplete information provided to us by the media. Thus, without all of the facts, none of us outside of a courtroom are capable of making this sort of decision.
All we know is that some of the police officers were indicted. When a Grand Jury considers charges brought by a Prosecutor, they only before them the evidence provided by the Prosecutor. The defendants are NOT allowed to bring counsel with them and they are NOT allowed to present evidence. But, an indictment does not mean conviction. It merely means that the Grand Jury found enough evidence to bring them to trial.
Now a Jury will hear evidence and decide which facts are true and which alleged facts are untrue or unproven.
That was the long answer, the short one is there is no way for us to tell whether they were right or not, because we didn't hear the evidence. If they are acquitted, then it would be safe to say they were wrong and if convicted they were right.
Personally, I believe they are innocent of any crime, but again, I have not heard the evidence.
there's no way any one of us can know that unless we were there and saw exactly what happened. we just have to hope the jury looks at the evidence and makes the right decision, if they did or not, i don't know.
no!
if the police are going to be charged for taking down criminals
we are going to lose our police they don't get payed enough to stand around and let the bad guys try to kill them.and if we don't have police who is going to protect us from those guys?
I actually believe that the number of shots fired is irrelevant. One round or one hundred rounds, it makes no difference.
The question is simply this: Did the officers reasonably believe that their lives or the lives of others were being threatened? If they did, then the shooting was justified.
Once you have decided that it is okay to shoot, then you shoot to kill.
The only question is whether their actions were reasonable given the circumstances. Personally, I'd need to see some more evidence controverting their story before I'd charge the officers. Those who protect and serve us all should have some level of presumptive veracity from the citizenry.
Good Luck!
;o)
Answer:
No, they should have charged the other two also.
