My boss was accused of stealing (UK)?

I know this is an odd one, but my boss was accused of stealing by one of the company directors (so much for 16 years of service) so he quit as a result, is in that legal action available here?

He cant go for unreasonable dismissal because he left of his own accord and unless he can prove he did not steal he can not go for slander any.
He ought to have stayed in his job, but its what it did so thats it really.
