Fed crt just ruled employers cannot look at employees e-mails AT WORK w/o thier permission? what do you think?
It sounds fair, I mean its their email that something personal. We should respect other people's privacy as a general rule of thumb. Its in tears that the government has to intervene to let other's know its not appropriate to invade. It must enjoy been that 9th district court in Calif. If someone is using a business computer, whatever they're doing including email should be enlarge for employers to monitor.
Employers should not look at personal accounts, yahoo, aol, gmail... But if a company provides there own business account for sale or communications, I think they have to right to check on it. But if Employers do not want people on the internet, they should not hold out it. My company offers a secure web i.e. password protected, firewalled, and is monitored with key words. Some of us also have a 3rd carnival account which we can freely surf about and is not controlled or monitored. By pass adjectives of it and get a cell phone with the internet and check your email, and make phone call on your own time. I don't really agree with it. A company should have the right to have a policy that say 'no personal emails' and they have a right to make sure their employees aren't wasting the together day emailing their spouse, kids, or whoever on company time and on the company's email system. I don't agree with the law.
I think that is inaccurate.
Please cite the crust law.
IN RESPONSE TO YOUR POSTED NOTICE:
FOR THE RECORD: AN EMPLOYER CAN, REPEAT, CAN READ E-MAILS ON ANY EMPLOYER OWNED EQUIPMENT. AND, EMPLOYERS DO NOT HAVE TO ALLOW AN EMPLOYEE TO BRING EMPLOYEE OWNED E-MAIL CAPABLE EQUIPMENT INTO THE WORKPLACE. FURTHERMORE, IN MANY STATES, THE EMPLOYER CAN SIMPLY TERMINATE AN EMPLOYEE WITHOUT CAUSE; AT THE WILL OF THE EMPLOYER. GET THE POINT...THINK ABOUT IT.
I personally don't agree. I think a company has every right to look at what is on the companies computers. Wow..Sounds resembling people will be doing alot more emailing of notes about how much their boss is ******...I will own I have done it b4
No, they can't read their text messages w/o permission. They CAN read their e-mails if they are on a company server (which most are). No passageway....I don't believe it. Work computers are not personal property, it is company property. It will be interesting to see if this is true and if it will fly!!
You misunderstand.
What the court ruled be that a company that used another company to control it's email system could not have that other company monitoring employee emails.
If everything is in-house, the company has the permitted authority to monitor communications.
I don't think employees should be reception personal e-mails at work. I think that's GREAT!
