Gainesville Tx, is it fair to issue a warrent 2 a parent when you son cuts class?
My son cut class and got a ticket, he had court but we have the same name so he took my cope of the court date and when I didn't attend they put a warrent out for me. I never got notice! I am not physic, and he didn't tell me. He ended up dropping out of school and moved out because of my demands he attend school if he was going to live under my roof. I feel the school made him a drop out because they don't handel things on campus. In my day we would have gotten corpral punnishmnet and extra school work. Now kids drop out and run away from home. It was so close to his 18th birthday their wasn't much I could do. He is 18 now and it will take time to repair our differances.
Answer:
You need an attorney. It may be the case that the summons to court really was for you. Some judges view the kid's truancy/misconduct as the responsibility of the parent - as if you had a magic wand which makes your kid obey. You need an attorney to explain the fact that you never received the summons to the judge and try to get a new hearing date.
If the judge really is pissed at you, you don't want to be the one to explain it to him - if you try, it is very likely you will piss him off more. You may find that a hundred bucks to a lawyer will save you much more in fines/jail time.
A pissed judge is no place to try out your hand at explaining a 'Failure to Appear' warrant.
The lawyer who represents him/herself has a fool for a client. Judges all used to be lawyers... Even when they say you have to pay $700 before he will listen to you, that doesn't mean he won't listen to a fellow lawyer.
Good luck!
Go to the court and explain what happened
