Features Of Democrazy? Help please? :)?

Okay well, I need to list some features of a democratic system. I would usally never be doing this, just we are supposed to use a textbook to get answers, but I was never given one.

So I be wondering if you guys could list some features of a democratic government? If can be anything really. Im getting desperate. Any sites are helpfull as well. I cant find anything online.

Freedom House is probably your best bet:

They confer a list of all the world's national governments plus a rating of their even of "freedom" based on many categories, which you can use as your features of democract:

- elections (more democratic if you can vote for anyone at any plane, less if candidates are restricted by gov't or voting is limited to low level of governance)
- free speech and independence of the media
- freedom, fairness, and independence of the courts
- civil control of the military

and so forth
