I am wondering what people think about the legal drinking age...18 or 21 and why..?
21. Theres enough problems beside the 21 and older crowds when they drink. If you put 18 year olds in the mix it would be crazy. I know there are 18 year olds who drink presently, but they know they can get in trouble for it so for the most part they save it under control. Plus I'm sure the drinking and driving rate would go up. I think it should be age 18. If a youthful man or woman is mature enough to protect our country he/she should be able to enjoy a beer if they want one.
21 because most 18 year olds are really impulsive and irresponsible most every 18-22 year old I know has gotten a DUI. I think if it be legal at a younger age alot more drunk drivers would be out on the road. 21 is a bit ridiculous. I live in Ontario and ours is 19 (in some other provinces 18) and I come up with thats about right. The fact is that most people will be doing it long up to that time they reach 21 anyways. So wouldn't it make more sense for them to be able to do it officially; in bars or resteraunts; instead of hiding it.
21 is the drinking age because seriously of people believe that the part of your brain that develops addictions stops developing around that age. But I instinctively think that if our "children" at age 18 can sign-up/volunteer themselves to fight for their country and possibly die, then they should also enjoy the privilege of enjoying a drink or two. And like someone said below, most people that become alcoholics started beforehand even 18. Most people have tried liquor before age 18. I be 14 when I drank for the first time on my own, most parents let their children have a sip so they can taste how disagreeable it is..... I believe that neither are the right age. I live in America but feel that England has taken the right approach, allowing children at the age of 5 to drink as long as it is within the home. There is nothing wrong with drinking, Jesus drank wine, but people pilfer it overboard. Kind of like eating, it is a good piece but can be taken to an extreme. Studies are showing that having a glass of wine at dinner is good for you, and studies also show that allowing supervised drinking surrounded by younger children is more likely to discourage binge drinking. Drinking is not a bad thing, but oodles people abuse it and that is what wants to be fixed.
Well...I think 18. If you're considered an adult at 18, why can't you drink.
If you can drive a car at 16 (which is freshly as dangerous as drinking) why not 18? Where I live, the drinking/smoking age is actually 19, and it is actually 18 contained by Quebec. The one year doesn't really make much of a difference....
Alot of High School students get fake IDs too, and the majority of youth nowdays are clubbing at 15 anyway....(I don't condone this!)
Our society is way too obsessed with alcohol, especially underage drinking.
I enunciate if you can join the Marines or the Army and go to Iraq to get your team leader blown off at 18 then you're responsible enough for wine cooler.
21 for the following reasons 1. judgemental ability 2. likelyhood of driving drunk ect. I believe that while you can fight for our country at 18 that your judgemental ability do not
fully develope until you gain much more expierence in life. This is demonstrated by the fact that teen drivers have a far higher rate of accidents and death form driving accidents than any other group. I would say 25 would be a lot better.
18 is passageway to young.
