I heard in California, they are debating whether or not to make this word illegal.?

A subsitute history teacher told the class a few months ago that in California, the politicians or whoever the guys are, are debating to make the word 'gay' illegal or not. He says it's probably because if you say things like, 'This is gay' then you are making fun of culture. Is this true?
I've never heard of any 'illegal' words.
It is in fact illegal to make words illegal...you're teacher must have been smoking something!
No way, if you look up gay in the dictionary gay is a synonym for happy or elated, hence it being an actual word and not just a label. If so tell cali to bring it up with webster's.
Have lived in California for 51 years. I pay attention to the news and especially in my state. I have heard nothing mentioned about taking the word gay out of use. If I do hear anything remotely like this. I'll be sure to call my representative because I think it would be a waste of time and money to put it on the ballot.

Answer:
that goes against the first amendment. so no, it will never happen because it would be unconstitutional.
I haven't heard that and I live in California, but if they make that a law then they should do the same for the word 'retarded.' That is making fun of people with disabilites that they can't help, and it can be very offensive.
Actually the word gay means happy. Maybe this sub needs to go back to get an eduacation. The word gay is not a culture, it is a word. Now the word homosexual is about a persons sexuality not a culture.
