Child Custody Lawyer needed in New Orleans immediately...?

Sorry about the other one...I need to obtain a lawyer by Monday March 12 for a child custody hearing does anyone know any in that area or where I could go to find one that would be open and taking phone calls on a Sat or Sun or even now at midnight??? It is a true emergency situation and I need have someone...Thanks to all that reply please no smart remarks...this is a serious matter..
I'm not from your state, but most lawyers see clients on Sat. This is a good day to contact them. Try the phone book. If you can not get one for Mon. ask for a continuance. Judges normally give one when you tell them you want it to get a lawyer. Good luck.
sorry, maybe a family member can help you. good luck

Answer:
It is impossible to do it by Monday. All you can do is to go to court and ask the judge to postpone the hearing so it gives you the sufficient time to obtain counselor. The judge will do it for you. I don't know if you can do it tomorrow, but go to the court house and ask the clerk there if you need to file the emergency motion to postpone the hearing and how you can do it. In any case, just go to court on Monday and request to set another hearing.
I don't know your situation, but usually custody cases are not a one day hearing. The judge doesn't just go ahead and settles the case in one hearing. It takes months, and number of hearings. Ask the judge for some time for you to obtain a lawyer. Never ever just hire someone out of the yellow pages. There are many very, very dishonest lawyers out there. They just prey on people in an emergency need like you and are going to charge you triple for the retainer. Always call your State Bar (for New Orleans: (504) 561-8828) or http://www.lsba.org/committees/lawyer_re... and ask them to refer you to one. They will do it over the phone for you. Also, the best thing to do is to ask in the court house about the lawyers who handle their cases there, and hire one of them. There are usually all the same lawyers that are in particular court, so the judges know them, and it will give you the advantage in court. I know, when it comes to custody, things are very, very tough emotionally, but try to calm down and relax as much as you can, then go to the hearing on Monday and request the judge to set up another hearing date. It happens all the time. Good Luck to you.
