Recovering money from a bad check???
How do I recover money from a bad check that my ex sister-in-law wrote to me in December? She has lied and lied about sending the money and now is ignoring me. I live in Idaho and she lives in New York. I am taking the check to the police on Monday because in Idaho it is a felony.
ANy suggestions besides an attorney?
Talk to a banker and see if they have a system that will let you identify her as a person that writes NSF cheques. That will screw her up at stores and also with the credit card companies. On the illegal side, contact the mob if the amount is big enough to afford their price.
In Texas you file with the Distruct Attorney's office.

File it with the state attorney for New York. Bad checks allow for triple damages and attorney fees all over the USA.
About 3 months ago when someone did that with a $3,000. check with me, I just sent them the law on that, which I copied from the state attorney's website, and they paid me the money plus $200. in interest before it defaulted to the triple damage amount
