Probably. Marijuana has been banned for 80 years and there is more of it around now than ever before.

If it was legal, the government could regulate it (make it safer) and tax it.

However this will never happen, leaders in both political parties do not want to appear 'soft on crime'.

i think they should it might become less popular and i mean its a natural herb. we drink coffee to feel more active. we drink energy drinks to be more awake. we have an addiction to coca cola and mcdonnalds and just junk food.

smoking ciggaretts kills more people than marijuana so why not make ciggaretts illegal and make marijuana legal lol

also alcohol is the reason for many deaths and car accidents why not trade tobacco and alcohol for marijuana it does no harm lol
Legalize it NOW. The government should not be involved in telling people what to do with their private time when it harms no one else. For a precedent - look to Amsterdam, Holland. Pot (and more) is legal there and it's a wonderful city. In fact, their levees survive hurricane impacts, unlike New Orleans. Looks like the USA could learn a thing or two from our Dutch pals.
No. It is addictive in and of itself. I have seen people in rehab addicted solely to marijuana. I have known people who have taken their own life when high on weed. It causes birth defects. Need I say more?
Yes, it should be legalized to eliminate the underground from controlling it. I don't want anyone to control marijuana. I believe everyone who needs a natural herb that definitely eliminates suffering from pain should be able to smoke freely without feeling worried.
I am personally against the recreational use pof drugs. I think that it is vile and a stupid thing to do that can cause serious and immediate physical and psychological injury.

But, I am also a Libertarian. This country was founded by Libertarians on the basis of individual liberty and personal freedom. The government shouldn't ban any drug simply because it is used recreationally. Many psychotropic and hallucinogenic narcotics are used recreationally and they aren't banned. Marijuana has even been shown to have certain medicinal properties that are not included in the THC drug Marinol.

Americans should have the freedom to mess up their lives as they see fit. Repeal the marijuana ban. But don't smoke it.
No they should not legalize marijuana because it doesn't serve a purpose other than to get high. It doesn't have any medical value, it doesn't prevent blindness from glaucoma, It causes cancer, and weakens the immune system. Therefore, people that have HIV or that are suffering from AIDS are doing more harm than good to their bodies.
40 years ago you might have had a better arguement for legalization. Today's pot, however, is about 100 times stronger than the 'weed' passed around in the 60's. It is now considered addictive and can cause psychotic episodes as well as acid like halucinations. Do you really want to share the road with someone like this? Not that it doesn't already happen but legalizing it would increase the threaet 1000 fold. Pull a couple bodies out from a car wrapped around a tree and then you'll understand the real worth of the drug.
well if it were to be legalized we could tax it then more money would go into the political machine. We would also free up some space on our prisons for child molesters and killers. There are a lot of people in prison for possession of marijuana. Also there was not been a single death linked with the consumption of cannabis. So to answer your question I think it should be legal.

P.S. It can also be used for it's medicinal purposes.

i will give you one reason out of the many i have but just to get you thinking....

regardless of the effects of marijuana or how dangerous it is or is not.......

the united states arresting its own citizens for putting something into their own body in the safety of their own home without harming any others, makes this country not a free country at all. it makes it very far from it. who is the united states government to tell me i cant pick a plant that grows NATURALLY from the ground, not added with pcp or baked or cooked, and smoke it. who is the united states government to throw me in jail for possession of a plant, possession of something god put on this earth to make the lives better for the people who embrace it. for the people who want to use the one life they have, not in jail, not in court, and not in trouble with the law. yet it remains perfectly legal for people over 21 to get absolutley piss drunk and kill themselves faster. i do no understand and can not grasp how the US can continue throwing its non-violent, tax-paying, job working citizens in jail. One person is arrested for simple possession of marijuana every 42 seconds. how can this remain this way, how can this be just, how can this be tolerated and allowed?

marijuana needs to be legal to help the millions of people who smoke it every day of their lives, whose lifestyle is based on weed, (which should not be considered bad, should be considered as different than one you would choose.

it will be legal one day, very soon
this question will be mulled over for a few more years yet, before the govs legalise it. And they will because they will find out that more people on the planet smoke it than not. If it is USED AS A RECREATIONAL DRUG then why not leagalise it. but then you will have people who abuse it . Very much the same as alcohol abuse, smoking cigarettes both were illegal at one point.
But then again they could just make it legal to grow two plants a year in your own home , to be consumed/ smoked in your own home and every other aspect illegal.
E.g carrying it around,smoking it e.t.c in public, dealing it,etc, etc, etc.
