Should churches lose their tax free status?
for harboring illegal immigrants?
Yes they should, but not for the immigration issue.
Churches are a BUSINESS and should pay taxes just like all other businesses.
If you want to practice your religion 'for free', do it at home.
YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YES!YE...
OH...and HELL YES!!
No. Churches answer to a higher authority than the American government. In the Gospels, Jesus commands his followers to look after the poor, the needy, the naked, the imprisoned, and other people on the bottom rungs of society. In Matthew 25: 31 - 46, Jesus says that whoever (and I am paraphrasing here) aids the least of his brothers, is helping Jesus himself. Illegal immigrants who happen to work in our most menial jobs certainly qualify as the 'least' of Jesus' brothers.
The only reason Churches should loose tax free status is by advocating for a particular candidate from the pulpit.
No, they should just Elian Gonzales them. But Republicans have a problem with brute force on this soil, unlike Clinton administration.
And as far as mild irritant. Taking away the tax status would not stand up constitutionally. So find another reason, that one is DOA.
Answer:
No, because it will start a trend of giving the IRS more authority to tax churches, and control them like China does their churches. Secondly, it is against international laws, because in the case of Catholic churches, they are believe it or not enclaves of a foreign government call the Holy Sea which has only one city called The Vatican. So...if the Catholic church is owned by another country, and they can't be taxed, then it's unfair to tax another church which is not catholic, and technically protestant churches could sue because of favoritism by way of separation of church and state if they have a smart Christian lawyer. The true background history and meaning of separation of church and state is that the government shall not favor one denomination (protestant or catholic) over the other which happened in historic England everytime a new monarchy took over.
