What am I missing?
Chris Vaughn was arrested yesterday and charged with 8 counts of first degree murder. There were 4 victims so how come 8 counts? What am I missing?
I'm not sure about Illinois law but, they may have charged him with four counts of 1st degree murder and four counts of second. If they don't feel they have enough to make the 1st degree stick (pre-mediation etc.) they will slide to the slightly lessor charge. That's how they do it here in New York. Go for the Murder and back it up with a lesser Manslaughter charge also.
i dont know maybe he killed them twice maybe they were all pregnant, or maybe it was just a mistake, or maybe there are other victims not accounted for.

Two counts for each victim.
Prosecutor James Glasgow, who declined to discuss possible motives, said Vaughn was charged with two murder counts per victim. One set of counts alleges he shot with intent to kill and the other alleges he shot knowing that it was likely to cause death or great bodily harm.
Vaughn killed 4 pregnant women with two babies or 2 pregnant women with quadruple babies ,each in their wombs.
