Do you think it is about time hanging was brought back?

I think its about time we got the government out of the justice system
Absolutely not.
Some states still have hanging on the books as a means of execution. Is it time that it be brought back in other jurisdictions? That's an interesting question since capital punishment hasn't really slowed down the commission of violent crimes. Look at the state of Texas. That state is executing prisoners on a weekly basis and violent crime has not been reduced.
Yep,and we should have stoning and stocks for people to throw rotton veg etc,and hands cut off for stealing and genitals cut off for rape. Let the punishment fit the crime.
Live executions on pay-per-view
yes i do for the bad things that
go on these days
No, accidents happen.

You would feel awful if someone was hanged and then later discovered that they didn't do it.
some people just need killin'......sling blade
To those who cite the US as a positive case for capital punishment, most prisoners are held for an average of over 20 years before being executed - about the same time as your life prisoner here in Britain.
What's the point in hanging just to appease a few blood thirsty right wingers?
No unless they sorted out the criminal justice system first. Too many innocent people being sent to jail these days. Look what's happened to poor Sally Clark.

Answer:
I was always against it, but when I see some of the horrific crimes that go on, why should tax payers pay to keep them in prison, they live in luxury compared to some people who work hard. There is no place in society, so why not!!
bloodthirsty conservative christians,,,,,, what an odd thing,,,,
Yes. But only for chlid molesters.

Since apparently child molesters get probation, and no prison (there are hundreds of examples, before anyone starts) there is NO deterant. Start hanging them, and some of these cho-mo's might think twice. Televise them - heck with pay-per-view, on ABC.

I don't think it would be any more an effective deterant than lethal injection.
Hanging no but the death penalty yes via lethal injection - much less barbaric

Jack Straw has much to answer for signing away our right to execute murderers etc
My biggest worry would be about wrongful conviction. It happens all the time and if you've killed someone you can't take it back can you!!! PLUS isn't it more of a punishment to lock them in a tiny room for 70 years? They know life is going on outside but that they will NEVER be there again. Ouch if you ask me.
Not really, unless one considers the old saying, 'Let the punishment fit the crime.' Suppose a bunch of white supremacists hung a black person; I'd be all for lynching them. But there are other methods of execution that are quicker, easier, and much more effective; hanging dates back to a time when such methods were not readily available, unless someone in the bureaucracy asked a doctor to come up with them.

To tell the truth, hanging was more of a statement than a mode of execution. Many people witnessed hanging, as opposed to current methods; it gave the impression that something was actually being done about crime. However, with modern media technology, it's just as easy now to watch a lethal injection by monitor. So, really, hanging is just an archaic and outmoded way of making a statement.
Absolutely no way, for several reasons.
1. The possibilty of a wrongful conviction, you can release someone wrongfully imprisoned, but there's no resolving a wrongful execution.

2. It's bloodthirsty vengeance, not justice, who are we to play God? A death sentence handed down by a judge and an official death warrant do not change the fact that it is murder. As Gandhi said, 'An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.'

3 . It solves nothing. Despite the death penalty in the USA, there is still a high murder rate. It doesn't act as a deterrent.

However, I do think conditions in prisons should be less comfortable and enjoyable.
Absolutely!

When you really think about it - Congress started running amok when we stopped hanging horse thieves!

What does this tell you?
What crimes do you think you we should use it for? Do you think it will work? Hmmmm Lets see the chair didn't fix anything, the gas chamber didn't work, firing squad...still the killings go on....Ohh yea lets try hanging that might work...We hung Sadam and look what happened....Ohh yea they are still killing Americans in Iraq.
Hanging cannot be brought back in because European law does not allow for it. besides think of the thousands of people who were hung that were innocent and the miscarriages of justice such as the Birmingham six they would have been executed for a crime that they had nothing to do with. at least if a person is jailed and it is found out they are innocent you can free them you cannot free a corpse.
It costs on average £500 per week to keep a prisoner incarcerated. Give 'em an little injection and let whatever's inside the needle work it's magic.
absolutely yes!!!
it was... that's how the lights went out for sadam
no they should make all bills just like saudi, you steal hand chopped off,if you rape, dick chopped off and so on......
Not really. I mean some crimes do deserve it, but the justice system needs to be fixed before we do that. I mean if you kill one person you get the death penatly but if you kill 5 to 6 your dubbed criminally insane.... Put in a mental institution, and forgot about.
What about bringing back 'quartering' too?

Hanging and quartering was hanging the criminal and before they died, cutting them open and burning their insides in front of them.
I don't know about hanging but the death penalty should definetly be brought back into this country, probably lethal injection. I'm fed up to the back teeth of these soft, liberal judges sobbing about how barbaric it is to cage people for life. The most seriouis crimes eg murder, rape, child abuse should mean execution. Surely it would make people think twice about committing these crimes and would save the taxpayer millions in keeping them them in prison.
It cant be we are part of the EU and therefore it would be against the law so unless we leave the EU it doesnt matter what we think
yes,its too easy for criminals now, although some hang themselves in prison, maybe the guilt?
I think they should get done to them what they did to the victims.
they ruin not only the victim, but families.
they need to have more fear of what will happen to them, how can you stop the devil though.god is the only way,he is more powerful than the devil.
It seems ironic to me that you advocate capital punishment so readily but condemn ISLAMIC countries for doing the same.

Wise up!
I don't think that capital punishment should ever be used. Besides the fact that I don't think one human should ever have the right to kill another, what about those people whose convictions are overturned years later, which would be a little late for those you've already hanged!
