What legal right does the US have to remain in Iraq after December 31?

My understanding is that our current right to remain in Iraq is derived from a United Nations mandate that expires on December 31. We need the Iraqi government's approval to remain longer than that otherwise we would be there illegally. It seems few folks are aware of this.
Best Answer:
The US did not hold any legal right to enter Iraq in the first place.
As long as they keep killing US personnel.
It is not a matter of a legal right.
Since it was an banned invasion the occupation is illegal.
That is currently under negotiation with the government of Iraq.
Current communication reports.

The exact same we had to invade! NONE!
