My cat is being targeted by a fox. He keeps trying to kill him. I am shooting the fox tonight. Is it illegal?
My cat is full grown, but I think this fox is very hungry. He follows my cats path every dark and even hides along his path and his favorite laying spot, so i believe he is trying to annihilate him and eat him. Can I kill it legally? I am all set to save my cat today. my cat can't stay in the house, he will spray everywhere cause he hate being inside. I can wait all hours of darkness if I have to, to catch or shoot the darned thing. I live within the country, kind of. There are neighbors fairly close, close enough to hear a gunshot.

Yea it depends on where you live. If you live out surrounded by the country just shoot it.... no harm no foul and none are the wiser. If you live elsewhere with neighbors contained by ear shot you could have problems. In many places discharging a firearm could become problematic. You could call animal control and they might bring out a trap for you... and after once caught they deal with it. It would require keeping your cat inside for a few days. The problem with trying to shoot him is you will own to sit and wait. Are you that good of a shot at night? The fox is attracted to your cat so can't thoroughly well use a shotgun as the cat would be running one way and the fox another. If the fox is lying in keep on he is going to sense your presence no matter what. They are smart little things.... hence the phrase "willey like a fox". They see ten times better in the threatening than humans. This is not normal behavior for a fox. If it was hungry it would not be coming by night after hours of darkness as there is yet no payoff. It would go elsewhere to put away. It is quite possible that it is rabid. Call animal control and see what they can do. If that fails keep your cat inside (he will be pissed of course) and bait some food beside poison.
A fox is not a protected species. So you can shoot it, if it is bothering around your property.
look you can't blame the fox for looking for a feast..just bring the cat in the house for a couple of days and the fox will go looking for dinner somewhere else.
I would save the cat from the Fox. If that manner killing the Fox, so be it. They have a saying surrounded by parts of the rural west when dealing with predators. That is "shoot, shovel and shut up" ,
Yes it is lawful...make sure you call the Depart of Wildlife or Animal Control after you kill it because it might be rabid, I live within South Alabama/Georgia and a man killed a fox that tried to kill his cat and dog, and it was rabid...how do you plan on bloodbath it? I would set a trap for it and then beat it with a bat till it be dead if it was after my cat...if you shoot it make sure you put to death it in one shot, or you might not be able to find it...
That to some extent depends on where you are and where the fox is. In my town, discharging a firearm in the city precincts is a crime. If the fox is in your neighbor's bedroom and you go there to shoot it, explicitly also a crime. If you are asking if there is some universal law, applicable to adjectives possible circumstances, everywhere in the world, that absolutely prohibits shooting foxes in faddy, the answer is no. If you are asking if your specific proposed course of conduct is prohibited, I don't know because I don't know what law governs and I don't know specifically what you are planning.
It depends. You should contact your local animal control office before taking aim at the fox. In some states and areas, lasting fox species ARE protected. It just depends on the area you live and whether or not that particular species of fox is in danger of extinction or not. Animal control will inform you of this, they may also come out and set up a trap to catch the fix being that it is becoming a nuisance. If you shoot the fox minus knowing the laws you may end up in some serious trouble. Take the five minutes and construct the call to animal control before you kill the fox.
