Why aren't cigarettes being banned?


Every 10 seconds some one dies from the use of tobbaco. I've also found that Smoking causes more deaths respectively year than fires, suicide, alcohol. So why aren't they still made illegal? lawrence!!! I just read your comment, and I'm not trying to tell you what to do or what not to do, it be a simple question I needed answers for for my essay yes it is my right .. I get what you mean, I contemplate you mean that freedom of choice should be respected, but what you dont realise is that your not only making the CHOICE for your self, but also for the next generation, just because people of this lifetime are addicted to it, does not mean that our great elegant children have to as well.

The simple answer is revenue. As everyone already stated, the taxes that respectively state gets through cigarette purchases is huge. Though a serious health concern, the pharmaceutical companies and medical facilities formulate bank by treating those hit with lung cancer. Do you really think that after 30 years, they havent come up next to a cure for AIDS or cancer? Funny how they have only come up with different drugs to treat such ailments, but none to cure. Why? Because they construct more money if they just treat.

People can not grasp the damage it does. Just as relations cannot grasp the perspective of just how much money President Obama has spent in his short occupancy in office. If they could, the decision would be notable. Besides, I think this is a free country. It is not the job of the government to protect us from ourselves. That is our charge. Our responsibility. Our duty to pass on to following generations the value of duration, freedom, and what damage a government can inflict once people rely on it to do the dirty work of protecting us from ourselves. The rest of the price is in taxes - mostly in state taxes. So you can digit the state is getting at least $2.00 per pack times every pack sold in that state. Losing that much revenue would break some states.

Did it ever crop up to you that some people don't want you worrying about their health? Personally, I don't chew over you have the right to tell me, or anyone else, what is in my best interests; you singular have the right to look out for your own. Let's put this "in my best interest question" on another level: With so masses mandatory seat belt laws, why aren't passive restraints mandatory within all new cars? Simple answer: it denies the government a source of revenue from the tickets they issue. So put in the picture me why the government says that wearing a seat belt is within my interest, makes it mandatory I wear one when in a vehicle, yet doesn't form passive restraints mandatory in new cars. Edit: And pray recount, just what right DO you have? If you don't want to smoke, don't smoke. If you don't want your children smoking, punish them when you catch them beside sufficient evidence of their disobedience. I will NOT grant you, or anyone else, ESPECIALLY the government, the right to tell me what to do, how to make higher my children, or what they can or can not do. The moment you grant the government such power, you will never get it hindmost. Whether anyone smokes is inconsequential to me; I don't smoke myself. However, I reject wholeheartedly the notion that anyone, be it you, my neighbor, or the government, has the right to tell me I can't smoke if I so choose. Where does such behavior stop? Automobiles slaughter more teenagers than cigarettes; should automobiles be banned, or should teenagers be banned from driving? Again, where do you stop?
Because many people choose to smoke, the tobacco industry is a large industry that provides a livelihood for heaps people, and the tax revenues support the government.
Every 10 seconds someone dies in a saloon accident. Should we ban cars too? Making them illegal won't stop ethnic group from smoking. They will just get them the same style people get illegal drugs. Our time of war on drugs is pitiful,we sure don't need to add tobacco to the criminal element even so too.
