Does a minor have to pay for a lawyer in Virginia?

If a minor goes to court over something do they have to pay for their advocate or are they provided one by the court or social services someone is petitioning for emancipation. do they need to pay for a advocate or can they have one provided for them
Best Answer:
Criminal: the minors parents pay for the attorney; if the parents are indigent, then the court will appoint an attorney; though you will (probably)have to pay it fund if you are found guilty Civil: everybody pays for their own attorney
It depends on what they step to court for.
Everybody has the right to a court-appointed lawyer for free
Those charged are provided free council but if someone hires an attorney, they are responsible for their fees (however, I don't know if a private attorney will represent anyone under 18 for just such reason
I don't think so
Emancipation is a civil matter and you never get a government remunerated lawyer for personal purposes. So yes the minor got to pay for his/her own advocate. Social Services has nothing to do with deliverance requests, and it's not their job to help in that concern. Besides when a minor requests emancipation, one of the requirements is to prove that he/she can support him/herself.
